Being able to communicate the message no matter what

August 1st 2006. A shrink tunnel machine had just broken down. The problem was isolated to a defective rocker switch. I called up the Shrink Tunnel maker to order the part. I find out the line is disconnected. A call to 411 revealed that the company was gone. (Out of Business) All I knew was that this switch was made by Carling and had a number on the side. Normally I would do a web search on Carling and call them up directly to get the ball rolling, but on this same day our networked ADSL connection was down, so we had no Internet access plant wide. All I had access to was a phone and a fax. I called up one of my Electronics Components distributors, Newark Electronics. I told them I had a Carling switch I needed to order but could not identify it. They patched me through to an engineer at Carling named Paul. Paul asked me to describe the switch. I said I will draw him a picture of it and fax it to him. A few minutes later Paul faxed back a part # and I placed the order with Newark.
