My first equipment design as a teenager becomes a reality. I dropped out of High School at the end of the 11th grade in 1976. I was 18 years old and had enough. I wanted to get out into the world and do my own thing. I headed back to NYC to try and get a job as a photographer. That did not pan out. While in High School I did complete two correspondence courses. One in Photography, the other in Camera Repair. I was running out of cash when I walked into the the worlds top camera repair shop to ask for a job. The manager interviewed me and hired me on the spot. I started out as an apprentice repairing lenses only. I got bored with that and wanted to move ahead. There were 32 other techinicians in the shop and I needed a way to differentiate myself from the rest of the pack. So on my own I built my camera grip to fit the Hasselblad 500 CM camera. This camera was the top choice of the pros at that time. I showed this to my bosses and I was instantly promoted into the design group. They also trained me to fix many more camera brands. Ever since that time this became my MO (sketch and build or "Idea to Real") Today I am building things so fast I build first and draw later. This is "Build Design" |
