Johns early years in design

From the time I was a small child I was fascinated with technology and attracted to complex mechanical toys and devices. My favorite toys were Legos and other construction type toys. I also liked electric trains and car sets. In fact anything that you had to put together to make it work is what I liked to play with the most. Some of the TV shows I liked were: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and of course Star Trek. I liked cartoons like Gigantor, Astro Boy, and Speed Racer. I was also a fan of Gerry Andersons Thunderbirds. My preference for technical things are reflected in my drawings from those times. Please see the next few pages.

This is the bat mobile. I was in
2nd Grade or 7 years old when I
drew this. I liked Batman because of his fancy gadgets. (Click to Enlarge)

Here I am moving up in terms of
complexity. This is from the 3rd
Grade and shows the Bat Copter
along with various rockets and
planes in the sky.
