Public School 230 (AKA PS 230) in Kennsington Brooklyn

This was the first school I ever attended. It was only one block from my house. I used to walk there in the mornings with my older cousins who were in the upper grades and at the 3:00 PM, the end of the school day, my aunt would meet me and walk me back home. The picture was taken in 2004. Very little has changed with the exception that an expansion building was added in the back to create more classroom space for students. The building is kept clean and well maintained both inside and out. I started here in September 1963 when I was 5 years old. I began in Kindergarten and went all the way on up to the 5th grade. I graduated in June 1969. All students sat in the same classroom with the same teacher for the entire school day. We did have a lunch period and in fair weather we were allowed to go into the school yard. In the cold weather months we ate in an auditorium. During class time the only time we got to go to other places in the building was for Art class (my favorite activity), library time, gym, and the weekly assembly of all students in the auditorium.
