This is a group of people who meet monthly to discuss Web Design. It was actually a group founded by Tom McDonald and set up on the web site Meetup Dot Com. Anyone could join. All you had to do was sign up. I signed up back in January of 2005. I knew Business school would be ending for me in one more semester so I wanted to get ready to build an all new and content rich web site soon after school finished. What better way to learn about how to do it than to hangout and pal around with people in the know. This group attracts people who work in web design for a living. I was already reading alot of books on the subject so I could contribute to the discussions at the meetings and also ask intelligent questions. Let me tell you, I am so glad I went to these meetings I learned so much about so many different things I was not aware of before. This helped me to plan my new web site, the one you are looking at now. This group hasn't had meetings since July, but maybe they will start back up in the fall.
I also always took the pictures at our meetings so our little corner on the Meetup Web Site would have some substance to it. Besides that it gave me a chance to polish up my Photoshop skills. Photos taken in dimly lit resturants always need a lot of work to make them acceptable. Each of the group shots above took a lot of prep work to make them acceptable, but I had fun doing it, and since I am not a pro web designer it was my way of giving back to the group.
